A retired teacher has been jailed for three years for indecently assaulting a teenage boy in the 1990s.
Peter McGuiness, 59, targeted the youngster after striking up a friendship with his victim’s family.
He took the boy swimming and bowling in a bid to gain their trust, but then went on to repeatedly give the victim alcohol before touching him inappropriately in the early 1990s.
The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) said the abuse turned sexual following a death in the teen’s family, and the youngster would be molested during sleepovers at McGuiness’s home in South Lanarkshire.

McGuiness, also known as Peter McGinniss, denied any wrongdoing but was convicted of indecent assault and breach of the peace following a trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court on 1 May.
Returning for sentencing on Friday, he was jailed for three years and placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Fraser Gibson, procurator fiscal for Glasgow and Strathkelvin, said: “Peter McGuiness carefully controlled and manipulated a young boy. He exploited a position of trust when the child was in a truly vulnerable state.
“His victim has shown great courage and strength by coming forward and reporting McGuiness to the authorities.
“We hope this conviction brings some small comfort that McGuiness will now have to face the consequences of his actions.”
