The pre-school programme revolves around the fictional small island community of Balamory and was originally filmed in the colourful town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.

The show’s stories, which centred around a nursery school and its teacher Miss Hoolie (Julie Wilson Nimmo), were produced between 2002 and 2005 and have been a TV favourite since.

Its catchy theme tune, What’s The Story In Balamory?, is also loved by fans.

The show has now been commissioned for two new series on CBeebies from 2026, with some of the old characters expected to make an appearance.

BBC Children’s and Education said the new episodes will once again be filmed in Scotland, either in Tobermory or another location such as Rothesay on the Isle of Bute.

Although the exact details of the reboot are yet to be developed, the BBC department is seeking ideas from producers and said the new episodes will be inspired by the original show.

Kate Morton, head of commissioning 0-6 for BBC Children’s and Education, said: “A whole new generation will discover and enjoy Balamory as we bring families together with this new update for CBeebies.

“It will be a real treat for parents who grew up with the show to now introduce their little ones to the brightly coloured world getting to know a host of old and new characters together.”
