It was the first time a triple Super Over had been seen in an international cricket match.

A Super Over occurs when a match ends in a tie after both innings have been completed, with each team being given an extra six balls to pull ahead.

If a Super Over ends in a tie, another Super Over is played until a team emerges as the winner. In general, Super Overs are rare. A match had only ever gone into a second Super Over once before, after India and Afghanistan went to an extra 12 balls last year.

The Dutch posted 152 for seven after their 20 overs and appeared set for victory in Glasgow as Nepal required 16 runs from their final over, but Nandan Yadav scored a boundary on the last ball – leaving both teams with the same number of runs – forcing the first Super Over.

Nepal then made 19 runs, which the Dutch matched thanks to Max O’Dowd hitting a six on the final ball.

During the second Super Over, the Netherlands, batting first, hit 17 runs but Nepal again stayed in the match after Dipendra Singh Airee hit a six on the last ball to force the first instance of a third Super Over.

With Nepal failing to score a single run and with the Dutch needing just one run, Michael Levitt smashed a six to finally seal the win for the Netherlands.

The 2025 Scotland T20 Tri-Nation Series is taking place after the conclusion of the thirteenth round of the 2024-2026 Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-nation One Day International (ODI) tournament contested by the men’s national teams of the Netherlands, Nepal and Scotland.

The Netherlands had lost their opening match of the series with Scotland on Monday and now have a rest day.

Nepal are straight back into action against the Scots.

Unlike in Test cricket, in T20 matches draws are not allowed, which has led to the creation of the Super Over system.
