A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, as police want to speak to anyone who saw an individual dressed all in black, wearing a balaclava, near the scene of the attack.
On Sunday 7 July, police arrested a 30-year-old man in Longsight, Manchester.
He was taken into custody ahead of questioning.
This came almost one week after emergency services found the body of Fintan McDwyer at a property in Fallowfield, Manchester, on the morning of Monday 1 July.
Mr McDwyer’s family described him as a “gentle giant” and a “true gentleman” with a “wonderful sense of humour”.
Paying tribute to him, they said: “Fintan was our own gentle giant, with a calm and reassuring presence.
“He had the most wonderful, soft, Irish lilt.
“He was a true gentleman, had a wonderful sense of humour, and always had a twinkle in his eye.
“There isn’t anyone who would say a bad word about Fintan, and it breaks our hearts that he has been denied years to be with his sons and grandchildren.”

Officers believe the “violent assault” took place at the property and Mr McDwyer suffered fatal injuries caused by a “sharp instrument”, Greater Manchester Police said.

Police also want to speak to any members of the public who may have seen a man walking around the area of Platt Fields Park, Fallowfield, Birchfields Park, and Rusholme around 4-4.30am, dressed in all black clothing with a balaclava on.

Detective Inspector Lee Shaw said: “This is a shocking murder of a much-loved family man.
“As the investigation progresses at pace, we have specially trained officers who have been deployed to support them and keep them updated throughout the investigation.”
