Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, both 32, were last seen on CCTV in the city’s Market Street at Victoria Bridge at about 2.12am on 7 January.

The siblings – who are part of a set of triplets and originally from Hungary – were captured crossing the bridge and turning right onto a footpath next to the River Dee in the direction of Aberdeen Boat Club.

In an update on Monday morning, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “They are still missing and enquiries are ongoing. Searches will be resuming today.”

The search team has included specialist advisers, emergency service partners, a police helicopter, and the force’s dog branch and marine unit.

Over the weekend, diving crews were spotted scouring the icy river as the search area was expanded to include the coast towards the Port of Aberdeen’s South Harbour, as well as Duthie Park.

Police Scotland said there has been “no evidence” of the missing sisters leaving the immediate area.

In a statement issued online by their brother, Jozsef Huszti, the women’s family urged people not to spread fake news in regards to the siblings’ disappearance.

The family said the Scottish authorities were “doing their job”, adding: “The family is not in a position to give separate information to everyone.

“Thank you all for being with us at this difficult time.”

A friend of the women told Sky News: “I hope they’ll be found safe soon.”

The sisters, from Aberdeen city centre, are described as slim with long brown hair.

Police previously noted the Torry side of Victoria Bridge where the sisters were last seen contains many commercial and industrial units, with searches having taken place in the vicinity.

The force urged businesses in and around the South Esplanade and Menzies Road area to review CCTV footage recorded in the early hours of last Tuesday.

Drivers with relevant dashcam footage were also urged to come forward.

Chief Inspector Darren Bruce said: “Eliza and Henrietta’s family are understandably extremely worried about them and we are working tirelessly to find them.

“We are seriously concerned about them and have significant resources dedicated to the enquiry.”
