Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has added more Bitcoin to its portfolio, bringing its total holdings past 3,000 BTC. The company recently acquired 162 BTC at an average price of ¥12.39 million ($83,635) per Bitcoin.

With this purchase, Metaplanet now holds 3,050 BTC, worth nearly $250 million at current prices.

Big Plans For Bitcoin Expansion

Metaplanet has made it clear that it’s not stopping anytime soon. In January 2025, the company set an ambitious target to amass 10,000 BTC by the end of the year. Looking even further ahead, it wants to hold 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026. If successful, this would place the company among the largest corporate Bitcoin holders in the world.

The company has fully embraced Bitcoin as its core asset. Adopting the Bitcoin Standard in April 2024 has seen fast rise in market performance and shareholder interest. Now on board are more than 50,000 stockholders; and its market capitalization has surged by about 7,000% in less than a year.

Unprecedented Bitcoin Yield

Holding Bitcoin has already paid off for Metaplanet. The company’s disclosure of a 310% BTC Yield in the fourth quarter of 2024 highlights the effectiveness of its strategy. It hopes to gain even more from possible price rises by continuing to buy Bitcoin in big quantities.

The approach of Metaplanet is in line with that of other companies embracing Bitcoin as a long-term investment. According to the company, Bitcoin is the best way to protect its value from economic uncertainty and inflation. This aggressive purchasing approach reflects its belief in the future growth of the flagship crypto.

Growing Influence In The Bitcoin Market

With each new Bitcoin purchase, Metaplanet is making its presence felt in the market. It is making progress in that area even if it might not yet be at the same level as companies like Strategy, which owns 499,096 Bitcoins as of Feb. 24, 2025. Its commitment to increasing Bitcoin reserves at a fast pace sets it apart from many other investment firms in Japan.

As the company continues its buying streak, its position in the global Bitcoin space will only become stronger. If it reaches its 2025 and 2026 goals, it could become one of the most influential corporate Bitcoin holders outside the United States.

Metaplanet’s strategy is clear: keep stacking Bitcoin. By making Bitcoin its primary asset, the company is taking a long-term approach that could pay off in the years ahead. As more firms begin to consider Bitcoin as a reserve asset, Metaplanet is already ahead of the curve. Whether its bold strategy will lead to even greater success remains to be seen, but for now, it shows no signs of slowing down.
