A teenager was killed by a high-speed train after a woman believed to be his mother was found stabbed to death in Berkshire, a coroner’s court has heard.
Julian Bracken, 18, was found on a railway track near the village of Pangbourne on 4 January, an inquest opening at Berkshire Coroner’s Court in Reading was told.
The student had been hit by a high-speed train and died at the scene. He was found at around 6.15pm.
This was 30 minutes after police were called to where Mayawati Bracken was found with a “fatal stab wound” inside a Lexus on the A340 Tidmarsh Road, a separate inquest opening heard.
The 56-year-old woman received medical attention but died at the scene, the court was told.
Assistant coroner Alison McCormick said they both lived in the same house in Pangbourne.

Ms Bracken was a housewife and went by the name “Maya”.
On her death, the coroner said: “A post-mortem examination has been carried out and the provisional cause of death is recorded as… shock and haemorrhage due to… stab wound to the chest.”
Referring to Mr Bracken, the coroner told the court a post-mortem found the provisional cause of his death to be “multiple injuries”.
Inquests into each of their deaths will be held at a later date.
